Pilgrim or Not, Here Is What to Do on the Day of Arafah

Tomorrow is one of the best days in the whole year. Several texts highlight the significance of Day of Arafah and its greatness.

During this day, Allah the Almighty showers His Mercy and reward over people. Pilgrims and non-pilgrims alike have great opportunities of forgiveness on this day.

The Day of Arafah is a special day for pilgrims and non-pilgrims.

It is an act of sunnah for non-pilgrims to observe fasting on that day.

A man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about fasting on the Day of Arafah. He said, “It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.” (Muslim) 

For pilgrims, the Day of Arafah is a day of Eid. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The Day of Arafah), the Day of Sacrifice and the 3 days of Tashreeq are Eid (festival) for us, the people of Islam. These are days of eating and drinking.” (An-Nasa`i)

Verse No. 3 of Chapter No. 5 was revealed on the Day of Arafah. Tariq ibn Shihab narrated that:

The Jews said to Umar, “You (i.e. Muslims) recite a Verse, and had it been revealed to us, we would have taken the day of its revelation as a day of celebration.” Umar said, “I know very well when and where it was revealed, and where Allah’s Messenger was when it was revealed. (It was revealed on) the day of Arafah (Hajj Day), and by Allah, I was at Arafah.” (Al-Bukhari)

Taqwa – Living the Main Purpose of Ramadan

Taqwa is a major purpose for the month of Ramadan. The people of taqwa are those who do the things that they are commanded and avoid the things which Allah has made prohibitive.
