Why is Muharram the Month of Allah?

Do you know why the month of Muharram is the month of Allah? Muharram is a sacred month. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “the best month to fast after Ramadan is shahrullahil Muharram.”

Prophet Muhammad (PBYH) called the month of Muharram the month of Allah. No other month has been called shahrullahi other than Muharram. Many of the Companions said that Muharram is probably the most sacred of the four sacred months.

When Umar ibn Al-Khittab established the calendar when he was calipha he chose Muharram to be the first month of the Islamic year. It occurs right after Hajj so it is as if it is a new beginning. It is month that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would fast regularly and he would fast the day of Ashura always. Fasting on this day earns us great reward.
