The best thing to do is go to your local mosque and see if there is a full time imam there. If so, he can be the wali.
However, if your local mosque doesn’t have a full time imam then it is better to find a local shaykh or a local student of knowledge that can fulfil this role.
You should fins a wali that genuinely cares for your well being and will get to know the man who is proposing.
