This Muslim Doctor Died Fighting Coronavirus

The fight against the deadly coronavirus has been claiming more lives on a daily basis, with medical teams at the forefront, and paying a heavy price.

A Pakistani Muslim doctor has become the latest victim of the deadly virus after he passed away on Monday, March 23.

Hero Dr. Usama Riaz lost his life while treating coronavirus patients in Gilgit-Baltistan on the Pakistani-Iranian borders.

“This is Dr. Usama Riaz. He spent past weeks screening and treating patients with Corona Virus in Pakistan. He knew there was no PPE and he persisted anyways. Today he lost his own battle with coronavirus but he gave life and hope to so many more. Know his name,” a Pakistani-American wrote on Twitter.  

“If you save a life, it is as if you saved all of humanity.” His story and the story of all those fighting need to be written for history to remember. This is sacrifice, Heroism, and martyrdom. (Also if you don’t know a Muslim or have a friend that is, u do now. Follow)”

Riaz became the first Pakistani doctor who died of coronavirus which he had contracted while physically handling suspected COVID-19 patients returning to Gilgit-Baltistan from overseas and other parts of the country, Bol News reported.

US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells on Tuesday has expressed her condolences at the passing of the Muslim hero.

“Saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Usama Riaz, who was on the frontlines of the fight against coronavirus in Pakistan. The US stands with you,” Wells said.

Imam Omar Suleiman also mourned the death of the doctor.

Deadly Virus

The coronavirus that started in Wuhan, China, late last year, has spread to at least 154 countries and killed thousands.

Medical teams across the world have been exerting great efforts over the past weeks to deal with the increasing infections of coronavirus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared on March 11, the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic.

The virus has infected 332,930 and killed other 14,510, according to the World Health Organization’s latest estimates on March 23.
