Bin Crews Given Boost by Edinburgh Muslim Community

Members of Edinburgh and Fife’s Muslim community have donated health snacks to bin crews in a thank you gesture appreciating their work on the frontlines.

“We really appreciate the hard work done by Fife Council and especially their bin crews and we wanted to show this by dropping off some healthy snacks,” said Dr. Abdul Hayee, vice-president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Edinburgh and Fife, The Courier reported.

“It continues to be a challenging time for many of us all, including frontline workers – across all roles – who have given so much to their communities throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am very pleased that our charity can help and support some of those who carry out critical work and are helping protect us,” he added.

Working under the motto ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Edinburgh and Fife have been working tirelessly to help the less fortunate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group has also made food donations to the homeless, delivered supplies to foodbanks and sent small gestures of thanks to frontline workers across all sectors.

Sandy Anderson, service manager for waste operations at Fife Council, was delighted to see the efforts of bin crews recognized in such a way.

“We are proud of the commitment our staff have continually shown throughout this pandemic,” he added.

“Our bin crews are essential for our health and wellbeing as well as to our economy. So, it’s great that their efforts to give their very best and that their essential work is being recognized.”

Islamic charities and Muslim communities around the world have stepped in with efforts to help the less fortunate during this difficult time.

Earlier this year,  members of Canterbury’s Muslim Cultural Centre rallied to donate food hampers to frontline workers.

The donated hampers included chocolate, sweets and a thank you letter to the frontline workers.

Muslims in Scotland are an ethnically diverse population. Although a majority of Muslims are of Pakistani (58%) origin, 16.8% are Africans and Middle Eastern, while 7.8% are White Europeans.

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, has the highest Muslim population in the northwestern European country with 5% according to the 2011 census.

Though, Pollokshields and Southside Central are the wards with the highest concentration of Muslim residents – 27.8% and 15.7% respectively.

Taqwa – Living the Main Purpose of Ramadan

Taqwa is a major purpose for the month of Ramadan. The people of taqwa are those who do the things that they are commanded and avoid the things which Allah has made prohibitive. And evidently, to reach a state of taqwa requires vigilance, it requires patience and sincerity.
