Spirituality in Islam has been called a number of things. Ihsan, God consciousness and many other things. But what does spirituality really mean in Islam?
Ihsan means perfection in Islam. This means worship Allah as though you see Him. If you don’t do this then know that Allah sees you. Ihsan also is a spiritual journey of improving our characteristics, our morals and manners and getting a state of Taqwa in our worship.
It is important to understand the outward aspects of Islam, avoiding the haram things. However, it is equally important to understand the spirituality aspect of Islam.
We have to learn to be thankful for the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us. We have to learn to be patient with the hardship that we face. We have to learn to be strong spiritually in order to avoid sins.
We have to develop a higher connection with Allah through our moral obligations towards others. This includes serving others and looking after others.
The spiritual journey is very crucial within in the Islamic faith. Allah says in the Quran: “successful is the one that purifies by the soul.” Good behaviour, good manners is something at the core of Islam.
