Keeping the legacy of their friend through good deeds, a group of British Muslim friends are planning a football tournament later this month in tribute to their team mate killed in a road crash last year.
Hashim Ijazuddin and his friend Saqib Hussain, both 21, died in a crash on the A46 in Leicestershire in February 2022.
Continuing the legacy of Hashim, the team that bears his name is urging teams to sign up for the six-a-side knockout tournament, taking place at Wykham Park Academy in Banbury on Sunday 13 August.

“Hashim was a special guy… everybody loved him,” Mohammed Hussain, one of the team members, told BBC.
“When [he] passed away, I made an oath and spoke to the lads. We wanted to carry on his legacy.
“He was a one-in-a-million type of person – his persona and personality was just electric. I loved him, the whole community loved him.
“That’s why these tournaments are so big because everyone loved him so much.”
Sadaqa
The team has already raised more than £3,000 from a previous tournament. They also raised money for a water filtration scheme in Africa and funds towards the construction of a Mosque in Pakistan.
“In our religion… when a man dies, his good deeds come to an end, except three: Ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who will pray for him,” Hussain said.
“This hadith teaches us that we can still commit good acts on their behalf for Allah’s (SWT) sake.”
Hard times could be an inspiration for many Muslims wishing to remember their dear ones, and this could be done with ongoing charity or ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ in Islam.
Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
“When a man passes away, his good deeds will also come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” Muslim and others
