Burnley Muslim Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Shakil Salam received a lifetime achievement for his contributions to communities in Burnley and Pendle
  • Salam has worked for over two decades in both print and electronic media, including BBC Radio Lancashire and Samaa TV

A Muslim journalist and health worker has received a lifetime achievement award in recognition of his contributions to communities in Burnley and Pendle.

Shakil Salam received the award from the Burnley and Pendle Friends League (BPFL) at the Pakistan Day Celebrations at the Ambulance Hall in Nelson, Lancashire Telegraph reported.

  • The event was attended by the Mayor of Pendle, Cllr Brian Newman, and Mayor of Burnley, Cllr Arif Khan.

“Shakil is someone who is widely known and respected media personality in Lancashire,” said Mozaquir Ali, secretary of BPFL and former Burnley councillor. 

“He is amongst the best media journalist in the minority communities, who has served the community for over two decades in both print and electronic media. 

“It is only right that he is recognized, and this award is well deserved.”

Shakil began his career in journalism in the 1980s working for BBC Radio Lancashire and the Daily Jang.

He also worked for numerous television channels, such as Ummah TV and Dunya Global TV. Now, he produces community news reports in both Urdu and English for Samaa TV. 

Both the Mayor of Pendle, Cllr Brian Newman, and the Mayor of Burnley, Cllr Arif Khan, attended the event.

“It was a great pleasure to attend the celebrations and reception. I am grateful to the BPFL for the respect and honor shown displayed,” Cllr Newman said.

Taqwa – Living the Main Purpose of Ramadan

Taqwa is a major purpose for the month of Ramadan. The people of taqwa are those who do the things that they are commanded and avoid the things which Allah has made prohibitive.
