Though the unexpected delay of Brentford’s match against Manchester United was a disappointment to many fans, it came as a blessing for the homeless who received the food already prepared in the stadium.
“The postponement of our game against Manchester United was obviously very disappointing for everyone, it was a game that we had all been looking forward to,” said Jon Varney, Brentford FC Chief Executive, Brentford FC website reported.
“But there is always a way to turn bad news into good by being able to work with our friends at the Muslim Hands UK Open Kitchen in Hounslow. We had a lot of food that would have gone to waste and it has now found a good home.”

The game was planned for Tuesday, December 14, but was called off due to the exceptional circumstances of an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak within the Manchester United squad, just like any other EPL matches that have also been called off.
Feeding Rough Sleepers
As many food was already in the stadium, it was given to the Muslim Hands Open Kitchen in Hounslow, who in turn distributed it to rough sleepers and low-income families.
“Muslim Hands UK do great work tackling food poverty in the local area and we were very pleased we could help,” Varney said.
“We consider ourselves a very important part of the community in our part of London and this is just one way we can assist,” he added.

Islam encompasses the concepts of community service in its morals. Showing kindness to people and charity to the poor are the most emphasized moral virtues in the Qur’an.
The Prophet (saw) said, ‘He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbour goes hungry’. [Bukhari]
Therefore, Muslim Hands established a community kitchen for the homeless, low-income families and needy children in Hounslow.
The kitchen serves 450 meals every day, providing a warm, community-centered space where people are welcomed with respect and compassion.
