We have all heard of a hadith of a man who killed 99 people and goes and asks forgiveness. The person he asks says “How do you expect to meet your lord after killing people?” So he killed him too. The man then went to someone else who told him nothing can stand in the way of Allah’s mercy but you need to change your life and migrate.
He began his migration but died on the way. Now the angels didn’t know whether to show him mercy or not. Allah said “measure the distance between him and the land he was migrating to” and Allah caused the land to shift, so he was closest to the land of migration and was shown mercy!
There is a hadith which mentions there were 2 men, one of them kills the other but they both end up in Jannah. The sahaba (ra) asked how can this be? The Prophet (pbuh) said “One man was in the path of Allah and got murdered so he was admitted in Jannah. His murderer repented and continued life and died in a similar way in the path of Allah”.
Allah laughs at this awkward meeting between these two men. In Jannah there is only increased happiness and joy.
