Islam tells us not to overeat and there is a very good reason for it. There are supermarkets and restaurants so close to us these days. We are not in danger of going hungry, however, we are in danger of overeating.
It takes 20 minutes for our brains to send a signal to our stomachs to let us know we are full. When we overeat we get extra acid, which results in heartburn. The heart speeds up as our metabolism increases to digest the extra food. The stomach expands beyond the normal size and to adjust the larger amount of food and as a result it pushes the other organs and makes us feel uncomfortable.
The most dangerous of overeating is that it makes the fat increase. This increases our risk of cancer, high blood pressure, severe depression, sleep deprivation, strokes, kidney problems and bone deterioration.
The sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has advised us against overeating because it will quench the light of faith within our hearts. The body has a right over you. A stronger believer is better than a weak believer.
We should look at the examples of the Prophet (PBUH) and his Companions and try and follow them. Switch to brown bread and seldom eat meat.
