UK Festival to Celebrate Black Muslim Heritage

Black History Month (BHM) is an annual program of events, originating from 1926, and usually marked in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

It’s an important way of remembering and celebrating important events and people in the history of the African Diaspora.

In the UK, October is celebrated annually as the Black History Month, showing increased attention to Black achievements, events, and historical and contemporary personalities.

Coming in the wake of massive Black Lives Matter protests in the US, which echoed worldwide, it will see the launch of the first online Black Muslim Festival. It will start on the 2nd of October 2020 and last for four weeks of Black History Month (UK).

Busy Program

“The Black Muslim Festival will explore the different aspects of our experience, from self-development, identity and mental health to relationships and parenting, from wealth creation and business to community activism, hijrah and preparation for the next generation,” Muslimah Writers website said in a statement.

“These discussions, so vital for the healing of our collective past, are inspiring change and growth throughout the African diaspora.”

The month-long online event will feature 40+ of the greatest Black Muslim scholars, academics, historians, writers, activists, professionals, and entrepreneurs. 

Speakers include Na’ima B. Robert, Boonaa Mohammed, Sheikh Abdullah Hakeem Quick, Maryam Lemu & Sa’id Takuma, Imam Shadeed Muhammad, Alhan Islam, and LaYinka Sanni.

Set by award-winning author and speaker, Na’ima B. Robert, it will have a mix of panel discussions, seminars, workshops, interactive Q&A sessions, screenings, poetry recital and more.
