Reaching Out to the Needy is an Islamic Duty

Following the way of our Prophet (pbuh) in charity is a way of purifying our souls.

Even if we are not so wealthy, we have to think that there are people around who are in need of a small charity.

In this animated video, Mufti Menk is sending us a reminder about how to give charity and what are the benefits of it.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Protect yourself from hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as charity.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Indeed the meaning is clear: giving charity or doing something no matter how small, for the sake of helping those in need will redeem our souls.

“Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.” [Surah A-Baqarah 2:245]

Moreover we need to remember that everything we have in life is loaned from Allah’s blessing. Hence we should share in what we have and do our best to help the poor while not simply giving them our discarded food or things.

Rather try to keep up their dignity by giving them proper food and item.

Finally, we are not meant to just sit and wait for an opportunity to give.

On the contrary we are meant to seek for the needy, to look for the ones who are suffering and underprivileged.
