This Muslim Girl Named One of World’s Brightest Students

Fareedah Oyolola from Lagos, Nigeria, has been named one of the world’s brightest students by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY).

Oyolola, a secondary school student at Greensprings School, was honored for exceptional performance in the advanced School and College Ability Test (SCAT) as part of the CTY Talent Search, Vanguard reported.

CTY uses above-grade-level testing to identify advanced students from around the world and provide a clear picture of their true academic abilities.

“The test was a multiple-choice aptitude test in verbal and quantitative reasoning, and I had to answer 100 questions within 44 minutes! At the end of the test, my score was in the 92nd percentile for verbal reasoning and 87th percentile for quantitative reasoning,” Oyolola said.

“There’s no way I would have gotten these high scores with such a limited time window if not for the great work put in by my teachers, towards developing my comprehension abilities and mathematical reasoning skills. I am very grateful to them.”

Special Honors

Virginia Roach, CTY’s executive director, congratulated the honored students in a statement.

“We are thrilled to celebrate these students,” said Roach.

“In a year that was anything but ordinary, their love of learning shined through, and we are excited to help cultivate their growth as scholars and citizens throughout high school, college, and beyond.”

A global leader in gifted education since 1979, CTY is focused on recognizing academic talent in exceptional K-12 students and supporting their growth with courses, services, and resources specifically designed to meet their needs.

CTY draws students from 50 states and 84 countries worldwide. CTY provides more than $4 million in financial aid to students.

There are more than 15,500 enrollments in CTY Online Programs courses each year. In addition, CTY’s in-person Summer Programs for bright students are offered at about 20 sites in the United States and Hong Kong.

Less than 20 per cent of CTY Talent Search participants qualified for CTY High Honours Awards. Honourees also qualified for CTY’s online and summer programs, through which bright students can form a community of engaged learners with other bright students from around the world.

Taqwa – Living the Main Purpose of Ramadan

Taqwa is a major purpose for the month of Ramadan. The people of taqwa are those who do the things that they are commanded and avoid the things which Allah has made prohibitive.
