Illinois Mosque Opens Doors to Neighbors

“Come meet your Muslim neighbors and learn more about the religion of Islam while enjoying food, henna and good company.”

This was the invitation Rockford Muslim community extended on Facebook to invite neighbors to visit their mosque, WIFR reported.

The Rockford Muslim Community along with GainPeace welcomed visitors to the special luncheon held on Sunday.

Organizers hope the event would give people the chance to ask questions, clear misconceptions and understand the similarities between Muslims and non-Muslims.

“They may have suspicion, discrimination, and sometimes violence as we can see around the world, so hopefully events like these will bring people together as humans as neighbors as Americans,” said GainPeace Director Sabeel Ahmed.

“At the end of the day, we can work together for justice for peace and morality and a better society.”

Mosques across the world have been holding open days for their local communities for decades.

For example, a number of countries host Visit My Mosque Day annually, including Australia, , Norway, and France.

In the UK, #VisitMyMosque was first conceived in February 2015 with about 20 mosques taking part. The number of mosques increased later to about 200 mosques.

In Canada, the first-ever Visit My Mosque Day took place in October, 2017.

Taqwa – Living the Main Purpose of Ramadan

Taqwa is a major purpose for the month of Ramadan. The people of taqwa are those who do the things that they are commanded and avoid the things which Allah has made prohibitive.
