Islam has a universal human right’s message! Islam’s values were coming as a shock for many people at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
As a result of his constant call to fairness, equality and equity; Prophet Muhammad met with severe criticism and mockeries.
As part of Islam’s message, he declared that slaves and slaves-owners are the same in the eyes of Allah. Consecutively a lot of powerful people (merchants, rulers or others) turn turned their back on him.
Naturally this universal message of human equality was even more rejected since Arab society was based on social class.
In his final sermon Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) told his companions:
“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.
You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim.
Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not astray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.”
What a tremendous message, only people who excelled in faith and religious commitment have a special position in front of Allah.
Truly, anyone can attain this position.
Indeed it doesn’t depend on your social status or nobility, your skin color, nationality, gender or disability!
Think about it … what an advanced way of thinking, while this pyramid of social inequity was a general model all over the world.
This reminder is always needed, because of the pride and ego of human kind.
