Incarcerated Muslim in Need of Our Support

You may have a loved one in prison, or have been there yourself. In such case, you know how isolation brings despair and pain.

As a matter of a fact prison reforms are needed to improve the condition of Muslims who have been often denied their rights to practice Islam.

As per ICNA Council for Social Justice, Muslims are represented in federal prisons at a rate roughly fifteen times their proportion in the general population:

9.3 percent of inmates in federal prison self-identify as Muslims compared with 0.6 percent of adults aged 18 and over nationally.

It is important to note that in the 1960’s, a number of Black Muslims stood up for their rights and contributed to making prison reform a subject linked to the civil rights movement.

This poignant video is made by Muslim Prisoners Support Project’s (MPSP). Its main objective is to support Muslim inmates in detention and correctional facilities by providing them with:

Prayer services

Islamic education

Equipment/supplies

Legal resources (to ensure that they are given their full rights and are treated in a civil manner.)

Listen to the stories of our brothers and sisters who are locked away and are in need of our empathy and support.

May Allah help them to overcome this hardship and guide them, ameen
