As there is no guarantee that the person we approach is willing to accept the proposal, it is important to get comfortable with the idea that you might be rejected.
How can you prevent disappointment and guilt?
Privacy
Try to keep your plans private and leave the discussion between the closest ones until it becomes official.
If you are the one who rejects it, know that rejection does not mean rudeness.
Honesty
Being honest about your reasons and communicating them with kindness and support will create a peaceful agreement about your decision, in Sha Allah.
Also, according to your interest, make sure that with your communication you “close the door”, or actually leave it “half-way open”.
