Wolverhampton Park Set to Host Thousands of Muslims for Eid Al-Adha Prayer

Thousands of people are set to come together for the first `Eid prayer at Wolverhampton city park on Wednesday, June 28, as Muslims from across the city and surrounding areas celebrate `Eid Al-Adha.

The event, organized by Jamia Masjid Al-Aqsa Wolverhampton Central Mosque, is expected to attract an audience of more than 6,000 people, Express & Star reported.

“We are delighted to hold this special event at West Park to celebrate Eid Al-Adha,” Sohail Khan, Councillor for Tettenhall Regis and a member of the mosque said.

“It is a great way to commemorate one of the most important days in our faith with friends, family, and the wider community.

This event is the first time to hold a Muslim prayer in West Park, following a successful first event in 2019 at Peace Green Park and a return event in Dunstall Park in 2022.

Attended by community leaders, it will begin at 9.15am, with prayers taking place at 10:30am. Free refreshments will be available and all are welcome to attend the celebrations.

“To be able to have the prayers in West Park marks a significant milestone for the Muslim community of Wolverhampton,” Khan added.

`Eid Al-Adha, or “Feast of Sacrifice”, marks the end of the Hajj season and is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations, together with `Eid Al-itr.

It begins with special prayers to mark the day, Muslims then offer udhiyah, a ritual that commemorates the great act of sacrifice Prophet Ibrahim and his son Isma`eel were willing to make for the sake of Allah.

Last April, thousands of Muslims gathered for `Eid prayer at Small Heath Park in the event organized by Birmingham mosque Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC).
