Finding the Purpose of the Quran

We all have wondered once what is the purpose of the Quran, is it just a book to follow rules?

In this video, Ustadha Taimiyyah Zubair explains that the Quran’s revelation to the Prophet (PBUH) is the blessing  for all of us. We must dig deeply into it to understand its function and meaning.

Reflecting upon the Quran is a must to keep inner peace and feel connected to Allah.

Alongside reading the Quran, it is always very useful to learn about the context to put things in perspective. Sometimes you read the Quran and the verses aren’t meaningful to you. Later on you will come across a situation that will remind you of these verses and will help you to make sense of it inshaAllah.

This is a book which we have revealed to you oh Prophet (PBUH) so that you bring people out of darkness into light.

Light in arabic is “NOOR”, a word that is recurrent in the Quran.

She explains that the Quran is for all of us, to shed light on our lives and the problems we will have go through. The verses of the Quran are here to heal you and give you hope.

This Edmonton Islamic Center Is Doing Amazing Social Services

Islam requires all neighbors to be loving and cooperative with one another, sharing their sorrows and happiness.

It enjoins that they should establish social relations in which one can depend upon the other and regard his life, honor, and property safe among his neighbors.

Fulfilling the right of their neighbors, an Islamic center in Edmonton has been helping people with major struggles while still treating them with compassion and constructive care.

The Edmonton Islamic Resource Center arose in response to requests from other organizations that work with vulnerable and marginalized populations.

Now, it operates as an interfaith collaboration of Muslim organizations, the Jewish community, the Mustard Seed, the Mennonite Church, and many others.

“We are not a social agency, and the amount of work that we deal with forced us to open up a social agency. We call it the EIRC: the Edmonton Islamic Resource Centre,” Salwa Kadri, the office manager at the Al Rashid Mosque, which operate under EIRC program, told St Albert Today.

Helping Less Fortunate

Telling a larger story about homelessness and mental health, Kadri wants this emergency shelter to bring more awareness to the right places that deal with vulnerable populations.

“We have come a long way to make people feel comfortable, but social issues like homelessness, the domestic violence … these social issues — that are local — are new to us.

“The amount of cases that are coming in. It’s overwhelming now. We were forced to open up Edmonton Islamic Resource Centre.”

Helping others is beneficial on both sides as one volunteer said on his becoming involved in the EIRC and its work, “I found my thing. I found what I want to do in life. I want to help these people.”

Several mosques and Islamic centers have been catering to the needs of the homeless.

In January 2020, the mosque opened its doors to rough sleepers and homeless people during cold winter weather.

A year earlier in February 2019, the same mosque opened its doors to shelter the needy and homeless of all faiths.

Sha`ban 1443: When Will the Pre-Ramadan Month Start?

Muslims all over the world will be looking, on Wednesday, March 2, for the new moon of the holy month of Sha`ban.

“The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on March 2, 2022 (Wednesday) at 17:35 UT. On March 2, the moon can only be seen by telescope in Polynesian Islands,” Moonsighting.com reported.

“The moon can be seen with difficulty in Middle East and Europe, but easily in Africa and Americas on March 3. On March 4, it can be seen in the whole world.”

Sha`ban is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. This is the month of “separation”, so-called because the pagan Arabs used to disperse in search of water.

The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar, and months begin when the first crescent of a new moon is sighted. Since the Hijri lunar calendar year is 11 to 12 days shorter than the solar year, Shaaban migrates throughout the seasons.

The month is very special for Muslims as it’s a prelude to Ramadan, the 9th Hijri month; “O Allah, make the months of Rajab and Sha’ban blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadan (i.e. prolong our life up to Ramadan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings).”

A new Hijri month starts when the First Crescent appears before sunset by a time gap of a few minutes at a minimum.

Never Give Up – The Power of Hope in the Quran

Online dictionaries define hope as the feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen, or feeling that events will turn out for the best.

Hope is something to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence. It is an ethereal quality that enables us to keep going in the direst of circumstances. We keep moving forward with optimism because hope allows us to envisage a better future or a good outcome.

Never Give up Hope

In the hustle and bustle of the twenty first century, hope often gives way to despair. Not because we no longer have reason to hope, but because we are so preoccupied and busy with affairs of this world that we do not give hope the chance to blossom.

Actually God has supplied us with an unending supply of hope. And when we begin to feel the pangs of hopelessness, we need to remember that God gave us every reason to rely on Him and to hope for His forgiveness and His mercy.

We should expect things to turn out for the best and we can look forward to tomorrow with confidence. God has promised us that following His guidance will lead us to the best outcome.

It is easy to forget one of the most essential things pertaining to hope and that is that God, the creator of human kind, understands that at various times in our lives, we will feel like giving into despair.

And to encourage us to look forward with hope, He reminds us consistently that we should never ever despair of His mercy, kindness and forgiveness.

The Quran and the traditions and sayings of Prophet Muhammad abound with references to how much God wants to be Merciful and how much He wants to forgive us.

What Makes us Lose Hope?

One of the reasons believers feel anxious and despairing is due to the fact that they have sinned. Sinning makes us feel bad, we are often ashamed and disappointed in ourselves, and when we feel like that over and over, it can easily become hopelessness.

People feel terrible when they think that God will not forgive them or is angry with them. It is dark and heavy feeling, and it is also one of Satan’s most useful weapons. Satan uses our despair to push us further away from God.

When a person thinks that they will not be forgiven, they may respond by turning away from God. That would be a grave mistake because turning towards God is the one thing that can restore hope.

Almighty God says:

I treat my slave according to his expectations from Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in his heart, I remember him in My heart; if he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a better and nobler gathering (i.e. of angels), if he comes closer to Me by one span, I go towards him a cubit’s length, if he comes toward Me by a cubit’s length, I go towards him an arm’s length, and if he walks towards Me, I run unto him.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Never Despair

The companions of Prophet Muhammad were not angels, they were human beings, they made mistakes and they committed sins. They also had a different understanding of the nature of sin and how it is connected to forgiveness.

The early Muslims understood that God has what we would nowadays call an open door policy. There is no sin big enough to make a person despair of God’s mercy and forgiveness. No matter how big the sin, God’s mercy is bigger.

Even after all the crimes Pharaoh committed against God and the Children of Israel, God still commanded Moses to speak kindly to him just in case he would ask for forgiveness.

Go, both of you, to Pharaoh, verily, he has transgressed all bounds in disbelief and disobedience and behaved as an arrogant tyrant. And speak to him kindly, perhaps he may accept admonition or fear God. (Quran 20:43)

Whatever sin causes your despair, it does not compare to the sins of Pharaoh. As human beings have the ability to make a choice. We can choose despair or we can do as God advises and choose hope.

Say, My servants, you who have transgressed against yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Truly Allah forgives all wrong actions. He is the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. (Quran 39:53)

…Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy, except the people who disbelieve. (Quran 12:87)

Stress and anxiety seem to be the plagues of this new century. Depression, fatigue and sorrow all try to strip hope away from us.

Hopelessness is becoming more common, isn’t it? Hopelessness is not a new trait, it has been with humankind from the beginning; and from the beginning, God and His Messengers have urged us to be hopeful. They have given us guidance and encouragement.

Whoever asks often for forgiveness, God will provide for him a way out of each concern he has, and will solve all his troubles, and will provide him with livelihood from sources that were not known to him. (Ahmad)

God has told us on numerous occasions to call on Him for help; and Prophet Muhammad reminds us that relief is no more than a supplication away.

Make supplication to God Almighty and know that He will answer your prayer. (At-Tirmidhi)

He even gave his companions advice on how to dispel feelings of anxiety and despair. He told them to recite this supplication:

Oh God, I seek your protection from anxiety, sorrow, inability, laziness, cowardice, stinginess, overpowering debt and subjugation by fellow man. (Al-Bukhari Abu Dawud and others)

This certainly seems to cover all the stresses of our daily lives, just as it covered the stresses that afflicted Prophet Muhammad’s companions. Our burdens today are no greater than burdens in the past, and the cure is still the same. Turn to God, beg His forgiveness and hope for relief.

…After a difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief. (Quran 65:7)

So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily with every difficulty there is relief. (Quran 94:5)

The life of a human being can be difficult

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient. (Quran 2:155)

The life of this world is filled with tests, trials, and tribulations but these must be faced with patience and hope. Hope that God will guide you to the best outcome. Hope will guide you through the darkness, but despair will only lengthen the journey.

God is merciful, what we see around us every day is only one percent of His mercy. Every time a mother holds her child, or a nurse wipes the brow of a suffering patient, or rain falls on the parched earth in a drought stricken area… it is God’s mercy alive in the world.

The other 99% remains with God for Him to distribute on the Day of Judgment. That is certainly a reason for hope.

God created mercy in one hundred parts and sent down to earth only one part. Because of this one part, there is mutual love amongst creation, so much so that an animal will lift up its hoof from its young one, fearing that it might harm it. God has reserved the remaining ninety-nine parts of this mercy to favor His believing servants on the Day of Judgment. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Afterword

Sometimes stress and anxiety can turn into the type of hopelessness we nowadays call depression. If this is the case for you, or someone you know, it is essential that you seek medical advice and help. This too is a mercy from God.

Send My Salaam to Your Ummah

Ibrahim (AS) cared so much about the succession of faith in this world. Even when he is in the 7th heaven he was concerned about this.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) said to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) when they met in the 7th heaven: “O Muhammad! Send my salaam to your Ummah!.” Jami At-Tirmidhi. He also told Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to tell us about the sweet soil of Jannah. He said that the plants and trees grow with the words subhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La, ilaha, illallah, Allahu Akbar.

This advice will allow us to rise in the ranks of paradise. SubhanAllah! This is beautiful.

Quitting Job For Kids; Will I Turn A Nobody?

“And then I turned into nobody.”

Leena talks about moving from a high flying, well-paying job, to simply staying at home. Her family was mortified.

As the eldest of seven siblings, and all of them either in University or already a professional, her mother’s disappointed resonated through and through while visitors came to see Leena and her second baby days after the birth. Leena had quit her job about a year and a half before because she could not stand sending her first born to a nursery anymore.

“The disappointment was so obvious, especially when there were all these aunties asking how long my maternity leave would last.” She [Leena’s mother] could not bring herself to explain that her daughter was *just a housewife* and walked out of the conversations.

“That expression of disappointment, of having a daughter who is a nobody, lasts with me forever.”

Mothers Prioritizing the Home

While it seems like the ideal Muslim family with the wife staying at home to take care of the children, it is different for daughters of some cultures where it’s expected for women to work, build a career, bring in a lot of money, have children, but send them off to childcare.

While there is so much media highlight on Muslim women being forced to stay at home, many mothers like Leena – educated even – fight tooth and nail for acceptance to just “be a mother.

Hajar describes her route even more vividly. As a Chartered Accountant, she quit her job while planning for her second child as she felt she would benefit her family a little more with her presence at home.

“My parents always measured our success by using the salary-scale and often boasted to others on how much we [she and her siblings] earned.”

So with Hajar quitting her job, it was a massive let down to her family’s reputation.

Just like Leena, she turned pretty much into a nobody.

“It’s difficult,” continues Leena. “Every time there is a family meeting, I get excluded. If I happen to be around, they will let me know that my opinion doesn’t matter and remind me that I have children, as if children were a deterrent from basic human intellect.”

Funnily enough, Islam puts so much emphasis on raising children that it’s peculiar to see women being sidelined for wanting to be full time mothers, and these were Muslim mothers to top it off.

“It wasn’t just my parents, though,” Hajar elaborates. “My husband was terrified to inform his parents about our decision, and when he did, things got substantially worse.”

From being the “Trophy Wife” – the one with the high flying career (and the one who bought their home), Hajar turned into a burden upon the son of her in-laws. Her husband had to justify how he spent on his family.

Every visit would be speckled with sarcasm, with either one of them asking her directly when she was going to get a job again, when she was planning to go back to work, telling her that breastfeeding was going to result in problematic children, and that in fact, her children were already problematic – because they were so attached to her.

“I just remained silent as the first two [children] grew older, as they were expecting me to go back to the workforce – and then I got pregnant again,” says Hajar. “Needless to say, I got shut into cold storage. My mother-in-law used to comment on how she always worked and could never do ‘that’ [such as sit and read with the kids].

But once I was pregnant again, they stopped talking to me all together. It was like I had gotten myself pregnant on my own or something, just to add extra burden to their son.”mother

While the family seemed religiously inclined, never missing prayers and having some “Muslim standards,” children – or grandchildren for the matter – were not of a priority nor a pleasure.

Most conversations the family always had revolved around something materialistic, like someone’s expensive car or someone else’s large screen television. With their own daughter having a professional career, actively choosing to remain single, Hajar was constantly being compared to her designer handbag or latest mobile phone.

Making Sacrifices that Go Unnoticed

Anis gave all of that up as well. As a mother of four, and former banker, she decided that spending thousands of dollars on her car, would be a small price to pay to raise her children.

“It isn’t easy,” Anis says, “You get used to money. I could buy things for myself without asking my husband. Now I stay at home with four children with one stable income. In a world where material success is prioritized over the well-being of families, it can have some really negative side effects on your self-esteem. It’s bad enough that a vast segment of society see you as doing ‘nothing at all’.”

And again, unsupportive in-laws adds a plot-twist to an already ugly internal struggle. “I live with my mother-in-law,” explains Anis, “She is unwell so I try to be patient. But having her around and having her ask me to go back to work every single day can be stressful. She even hands me those flyers that advertise jobs for cleaners and cashiers.”

It’s not that Anis feels that these jobs are beneath her, but she does earn a fluctuating income through blogging and affiliate sales of Islamic products. She is also in the midst of setting up a pre-school in her area, also through a franchise programme.

Needless to say, she has her hands full with four children accompanying her everywhere, but her mother-in-law doesn’t understand that being a mother alone, is enough of a job already, without the extra work that is not obligatory upon a woman in Islam.

In fact, all three mothers started some venture right from their home, and do not lounge around the entire day demanding for their needs to be fulfilled. “I sympathize with my husband,” says Hajar, “It’s not easy to survive on a single income in a growing household and he works hard to provide for us, but sometimes it falls short. Alhamdulillah, book-keeping for small enterprises keeps the income rolling in for us.”

On whether or not her in-laws understand this, she says: “My husband has tried to explain that I still have an income. On one hand, I sometimes feel relieved that he is standing up for me, but on the other hand, I don’t think I should have to explain my choices. But it’s not like they understand. As far as they are concerned, I am still a free-rider.”

Leena considered going back to work too – especially when times got hard. But she knew that it was only through the Mercy of Allah that she and her husband were able to work through difficult financial patches so that her children could still have her at home.

“I loved my job and my career. I was great at it, alhamdulillah. When I tendered my resignation, my employer offered to triple my salary because I carried so much weight in the office. I went beyond the call of my job description and helped a lot in the office in matters that were even over and above my scope. I had made a name for myself.”

“But I felt that I had something more important to do – I had to take care my children. Even if it turned me into a nobody.”

It is such a pity for mothers like these to be sidelined by their families. While they acknowledge that their husbands have to sacrifice more with their wives staying home, their own sacrifices (of being financially stable themselves,) and letting go of many of their own personal needs go completely unacknowledged. All three of them – and amongst others in their own circle of friends –wonder if this is even normal.

The Dutiful Daughter or Daughter-in-Law Fallacy

There is always so much hype of Muslim women seemingly oppressed by staying at home. These women – mothers – tell a different story. While all of them were successful graduates and professionals, they felt their calling was more meaningful in their own home. Even with work opportunities from home, they were still considered as “useless,” “did nothing,” or were plainly, “living of the fat of the land.”

Staying at home brings on an internal struggle for many women, especially for those who were brought up to believe that their self-worth lay in their salary slips or the cars they were able to afford. And there are those who are brave enough to take a stand against their own culture of leaving the home and carrying their own “weight.”

While all three do feel disappointed in the lack of support from those around them, they do find solace in supportive husbands and like-minded mothers who chart out paths from the Corporate World to the nucleus of their own home.

Who Are Muslim Crimean Tatars?

Prior to being incorporated into the Russian Empire, the Crimean Peninsula was independent under the Crimean Khanate. The Muslim Turkic Crimean Tatars were under the influence of the Ottoman Empire, while also bordering an increasingly aggressive Russian Empire.

In 1774, following the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–74, the Russian and Ottoman empires agreed to refrain from interfering with Crimean Khanate through the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca. In 1783, following the increasing decline of the Ottoman Empire, the Russian Empire annexed the Crimean Khanate

In the USSR, it was often impossible to use the ethnic name “Crimean Tatar.” The Soviet authorities insisted that there was no such thing, just “Tatars” in general.

The Crimean Tatars therefore understandably put the stress on “Crimean”. In fact, there is a growing movement to call “Crimean Tatars” (Qirimtatar, plural Qirimtatarlar).

📚 Read Also: Bohoniki & Kruszyniany Mosques of Lipka Tatars in Poland

Simply, they use “Crimeans” or even “Tavreans” (Tavry) after the Greek name “Taurica” for the broader region.

The very word “Crimea” comes from the Crimean Tatar word Qirim. This reflects the idea that the Crimean Tatars are in fact a multi-ethnic conglomerate. Anyone who adopted Islam in Crimea in the Middle Ages supposedly and automatically became a Crimean Tatar.

History

Forced from their homes in 1944 and 2014, Crimean Tatars fell in the middle of the Russia-Ukraine tensions.

Crimea was seized by the Russian Federation after the overthrow of President Victor Yanukovych during the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. This move was denounced by the new Ukrainian government and disregarded by most UN states, which continue to recognize Crimea as part of Ukraine.

Crimea has a long multi-ethnic history; the Crimean Tatars were the dominant power between Haci Giray’s foundation of the “Crimean Khanate” [1] in 1441 and the Russian conquest in 1783.

The Giray family claimed to descent from Jengiz Khan himself, but formed a separate kingdom after the Golden Horde [2] began to fall apart in the second half of the 14th century — largely because of Tamerlane’s attacks, not the Russian victory at the Battle of Kulikovo Field in 1380.

Historians dispute the extent to which the Crimean Khanate became a “protectorate” of the Ottoman Empire in 1475.

Successive waves of emigration reduced the Crimean Tatar population to 26 percent by 1921.

The Night Journey – Why Exclusively For Prophet Muhammad?

Very often in life we go through periods of trial or great sadness, only to look back on them later and see that they were followed by great happiness or periods of growth.

There is a saying in English that “sunshine follows the rain”.

In the tenth year after the first revelation of the Quran, Prophet Muhammad suffered greatly. First of all, his uncle Abu Talib died. He had loved the Prophet dearly and had protected him from the attacks and the ridicule of the Quraish.

To Muhammad, it was a very severe blow.

Then another tragedy followed. His beloved wife, Khadijah died. Muhammad was grief stricken at such a loss.

It was after both of these events that Allah Almighty granted His Prophet an extraordinary favor. Out of the darkness of loss, Muhammad was given a great joy and a great confirmation of his role as Messenger.

In the Quran we read what means:

Glory to Allah who did take His Servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Furthest Mosque whose precincts We did bless, in order that We might show him some of Our Signs. For Allah hears and sees all things. (17:1)

In Arabic we call this al-Isra’ and al-Miraj (The Night Journey and Ascension). It is one of the most extraordinary events to have happened.

Allah took Prophet Muhammad on a night journey from the Ka’bah in Makkah to Jerusalem and then led him through the seven heavens almost to the very throne of Allah Himself.

Muslims celebrate this blessed favor on the 27th night of the month of Rajab.

It began when the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) descended and woke Muhammad from sleep with Buraq, an animal which could reach the farthest horizon in just one stride.

They traveled to the mosque in Jerusalem and Muhammad tethered the animal outside the mosque. Muhammad then entered the mosque to find assembled there all the former prophets who had ever lived, and he led them in prayer. What a moment of special honor, that Muhammad should stand in front of such an assembly and lead them.

The Ascension

Jibreel then led him from the place we now call the Dome of the Rock and they began to ascend through the seven heavens, encountering former prophets along the way.

Heaven 1

In the first level of heaven, Muhammad met Prophet Adam, who greeted him with As-salamu alaykum. Muhammad replied Wa alaykum as-salam and Adam confirmed that Muhammad was indeed the Messenger of Allah. He also looked to his right and smiled and then looked to his left and wept. Those on his right were the believers and those who caused him to weep were the unbelievers.

Heaven 2

They then moved on to the second level of heaven, where Jibreel asked for the door to be opened and met prophets Yahya (John the Baptist) and his cousin Jesus who greeted them. Muhammad once again returned their greeting and they confirmed that he was the Messenger of Allah.

Heaven 3

On the third level Muhammad met Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) who greeted him.

Heaven 4

On the fourth level he met Prophet Idris who greeted him.

Heaven 5

On the fifth level of heaven he met Harun (Aaron) who greeted him, the brother of Musa (Moses). He returned their greetings and all three Prophets confirmed that Muhammad was the Messenger of Allah.

Heaven 6

On the sixth level of heaven Muhammad met Prophet Moses who greeted him with a sign of peace and testified that he was the Messenger of Allah. After this, Moses began to weep. He said that he was sad because a younger man had been commissioned as a prophet after him and that man’s followers would enter heaven in greater numbers than his own.

Heaven 7

When Muhammad reached the seventh heaven he met Prophet Abraham, who declared that Muhammad was the Messenger of Allah. Abraham was resting against Al-Bayt Al-Mamur, a House of Worship around which circumambulate seventy thousand different angels every day.

After this, Muhammad reached the most beautiful tree in heaven: Sidrat Al-Muntaha, whose leaves were the size of elephants’ ears and which was covered by golden moths.

In the Presence of God

The final part of this extraordinary revelation was the greatest of all. No man can look upon the face of Allah Almighty, since He is so great and beyond our comprehension, but Muhammad was taken to within a very close distance to the throne of Allah Himself.

Allah Almighty informed His servant that it was now obligatory on all Muslims to perform prayers fifty times a day. After this, Muhammad was led away by Jibreel, no doubt staggered by all that had been revealed to him.

As he was being led away, the Prophet was stopped by Moses, who asked what he had been told by Allah.

When Moses was told about the obligation to perform fifty prayers, he said that this was too much and was beyond the capacity of any man, so Muhammad should go back and ask that the number of prayers be made less.

Prophet Muhammad returned to the throne of Allah and asked if the number of prayers could be made less. Allah granted his request and said that the number of prayers obligatory each day should be ten. Moses again said that this was too many and urged Muhammad to return and ask that the obligation be made less.

This time, Allah Almighty reduced the number of obligatory prayers to five each day. Upon seeing Moses again, Moses urged him to ask that the obligation be lightened even more, since the Children of Israel were unable to fulfill their obligations.

Prophet Muhammad declared that he felt ashamed to ask more from Allah. At that moment, he heard a voice declares:

I have enforced My obligation and made it light for My servants. He who prays these five prayers will be rewarded as if he had prayed fifty. What I decree cannot be changed.

The Return Home

With this the Night Journey and Ascension were over. Muhammad returned to Makkah the next morning and narrated all that had happened to him. When some of the Quraish heard what he said they laughed out loud, calling him a madman.

Those who had visited Jerusalem asked him to describe it, trying to catch him out, but he was able to describe the place perfectly. He was able to tell them of a caravan which he had seen traveling from Jerusalem to Makkah, with exact details.

The very same caravan arrived in Makkah when he said it would, but even this was not enough to persuade those who refused to believe.

Conclusion

For ourselves, we can take the words of Abu Bakr as an explanation of what had happened.

“If he said so, it must be true.”

These words of total trust in Prophet Muhammad earned Abu Bakr the title As-Siddiq, one who believes. It is enough for us, too, to accept from our Prophet what he tells us to be true. If only we were as prompt in listening to what he tells us.

Let us rejoice that we have been given the gift of five prayers each day, and that we receive the reward of praying fifty prayers if we perform them well.

And let us resolve to listen attentively to whatever our Prophet says. If he said so, it must be true.

4 Raisons Derrière Notre Conversion A L’islam

Y si él camina hacia Mí, Yo me apresuro hacia él.

Muslim

Pídele a Allah (SWT)

5 Daily Prayers and 5 Opportunities for Forgiveness

Part one of this series explored some opportunities to get rid of our sins. In this article we see how prayers, in particular, can also wipes out our sins.

Through this series you will notice that ways of forgiveness are so many and diverse in terms of their types and times.

In other words, if you are really interested in living a constantly clean life, you can do it. If  you wish to have the stains of sins removed from your records promptly, the task is easy. The ways to achieve that are numerous.

An Important Point

Before moving further to discuss more forgiveness means, one point needs to be emphasized here. Although the ways to Allah’s pardon are paved and the access to it is made easy, many of us fail to take advantage of them.

That is a symptom of the ghaflah (heedlessness) ailment which turns the human into an aimless machine that only cares about the joys of the world and neglects the true, everlasting life.

So, no matter how easy to get the blessing of forgiveness, without taking the matter seriously and paying heed to the importance of being forgiven; without realizing the dangerous threat of sins and, thus, working diligently to get rid of them, you will most likely lose those forgiveness opportunities. This is a worrying situation that you need to be on the alert for.

5 Daily Prayers: Packages of forgiveness

Now, let’s get back to our topic. This article will focus on Salah and its related activities. It is amazing how many opportunities of forgiveness are available to us on daily bases through Prayers. At every stage of Salah, there is a chance of forgiveness: Wudu’, walking to the Masjid, praying and repeating the After-Salah dhikr (Allah’s remembrance)

1. Wudu’: Washing up Body and Soul

`Abdullah As-Sunabihi reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

When the believing servant performs Wudu’and rinses his mouth, his sins come out from his mouth.

When he sniffs water into his nose and blows it out, his sins come out from his nose.

When he washes his face, his sins come out from his face, even from beneath his eyelashes.

When he washes his hands, his sins come out from his hands, even from beneath his fingernails.

When he wipes his head, his sins come out from his head, even from his ears.

When washes his feet, his sins come from his feet, even from beneath his toenails.

Then his walking to the Masjid and his Salah will earn extra merit for him.” (An-Nasa’i and authenticated by Al-Albani)

2. Walking to the Masjid: Steps to Forgiveness

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet said:

When one of you performs ablution and does it well, then he comes to the mosque for no other purpose than prayer, he does not take one step but Allah raises him in status one degree thereby, and takes away one of his sins, until he enters the mosque.

When he enters the mosque he is in a state of prayer so long as he is waiting for the prayer.’” (Ibn Majah and authenticated by Al-Albani)

3. Prayers: Guaranteed Purification

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said:

Do you think that if there was a river by the door of any one of you, and he bathed in it five times each day, would there be any trace of dirt left on him?”

They said: “No trace of dirt would remain on him.”

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commented: “That is the likeness of the five daily prayers. By means of them, Allah erases sins.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

4. After-Salah Dhikr: Endless Opportunities

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said:

He who repeats after every prayer:

Subhan Allah (Allah is free from imperfection) thirty-three times,

Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah) thirty-three times,

Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest) thirty-three times;

and completes the hundred with:

(There is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent)

will have all his sins pardoned even if they may be as large as the foam on the surface of the sea. (Muslim)

5. An Open Door for Forgiveness

Zaid ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah said:

He who performs wudu’ well, and then offers two rak`ahs of prayers during which (he is so attentive that) he does not forget (anything in it), will be forgiven all his past sins. (Abu Dawud and classified as Hasan by Al-Albani)

Finally, to gain the above reward, we need to focus on the quality of our prayers and the acts of worship preceding/succeeding it. To remove a difficult stain, you need a powerful and effective detergent. To maximize your prayer’s power, you need to perform it in the best possible way in terms of concentration, humbleness and sincerity. Paying due attention to that will gain you continuous cleanliness throughout your life insha Allah.
