New Muslim: But How to start?

Advice for New Muslims -1- Approach to Learning Prayer  and Reading the Quran by Nouman Ali Khan

In this short message, Nouman Ali Khan is explaining what to do for a new Muslim as first steps.

It is agreed that a new Muslim has to read Quran and to start praying. Now, how or where to start? Knowing that most of the converts do not speak Arabic?

His general message is: take baby steps! Don’t push yourself and don’t stress yourself over what you don’t know or master yet.  Indeed, your relationship with Quran is about quality not about quantity.

  • Reading the Quran: reading it in your own language is totally fine to start understanding the meaning of its verses. Furthermore it can give you a spiritual boost
  • The need to pray: praying in Arabic takes time and you can use a cheat-sheet placed in front of you with the transliteration for the pronunciation until you can memorize it.
  • Remember practice means perfect: with time it will become easier.

But why Muslims insist to pray in Arabic?

  • It is the language of the revelation. Hence we consider the language of the Quran sacredas these are the words of Allah, our creator.
  • Moreover, it is said that even for one letter you are trying to learn or pronounce; you will be rewarded.
  • Arabic language is a very rich language

Finally your goal is to keep a healthy and growing relationship with the Quran.

Don’t despair or feel discouraged, you are not the only one struggling and Allah sees everything. May Allah facilitate it for you, amen.
