1- Porn Culture: a Trigger for Violence on Women

Nowadays pornography is accessible easily on the net. Moreover porn stars” are welcome on talk shows, and somehow it gives the message that the porn industry is accepted as a regular business.

As a matter of a fact we have to wonder: what is the impact of such degrading material?

Can pornography fuel men’s violent action towards women?

And as well, which preventive strategy to use within our community

In this lecture, Wael Ibrahim explains that pornography has lead to violent masculine behaviors. In order to demonstrate how pornography distorts the reality in people’s mind, he uses practical cases of men and women who were in contact with him. Then he quotes a certain number of scientific studies focused on abuse on women. And finally, he send a deep message to the men our community.

The first case to be mentioned is about a rapist whom he met who stated that: “Pornography […] make the viewers feel as if women are liking the idea of being raped.”

Similarly, a general pattern is emerging from the examples given by the lecturer. Indeed the porn industry has been feeding men with dirty and perverted ideas about sexual intimacy.

To sum up, it is clear now that porn culture is feeding violence and rape culture.

Ustez Wael Ibrahim has a message for the men in our community to help them shift their mindset about the role of their partners:

The Prophet Muhammad PBUH in his last sermon said: “O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers.”

I wanted to repeat that last part, “… they are your partners and committed helpers.”

My dear brothers. if you are addicted and been in this darkness for many years, ask yourself: “Isn’t time to open up to your beloved wife and ask her for help?” Yes! She might react angrily at first, but be patient! I am certain she will quickly cool down and offer you the necessary support, otherwise your addiction will lead to violence and that will go straight against the commands and the last will of our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
