Misconceptions Related to Quran and Muslims

Quran is a book that was revealed for not only Muslims but all of mankind.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was the last messenger of God according to the Quran but not the only messenger of God.

The Prophet SAW mentioned in the Quran are thesame mentioned in the Bible and the Hebrew scriptures. Chapter 2 verse 126 of the Quran says…

We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ismail and Isaac and Jacob and the descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between them.

Furthermore if you read the Quran, you will find the teachings of various Prophets of mankind from Adam to Jesus, Abraham to Muhammad (SAW) mentioned in it preaching Muslims that God is one and the world is a fraternity.

Chapter 6, Verse 90 says,

“The Quran is a reminder forall mankind.”

Quranic commandments are certainly not limited to Muslims but to all of mankind.

Fake news vilifying Muslims and misinformation related to Islam are common now, media coverage of crimes done by Muslims is also out of sync which contributes to a greater cause of aversion towards Islam.

Research by the University of Alabama shows attacks by Muslim receive an average of 105 headlines, others just 15.

The findings were based on all terrorist attacks in US between 2006 and 2015 according to the Global Terrorism data with the reality given that right wing terrorists carried out nearly twice as many terrorist attacks as Muslim extremists between 2008 and 2016.

We often see many Muslim individual’s wrongdoing being attributed to Quran while the righteous deeds of billions of Muslim who follow the true teachings of Quran being unnoticed.

Ironically, the book which commands Muslims to reply evil with good in its Chapter 41, Verse
34,

The good deed and bad deed are not the same return evil with good”

has often been attributed to wrongdoings while Quran certainly commands good-conduct, kindness and tolerance.

Certain verses that were revealed in the course of battle allowing military action with certain criteria and limits to defend the evil are often taken out of the context and shown as a universal verse applying to Non-Muslims with the reality given that Quran commands in the chapter 5, verse 32

that whoever kills an innocent person it is as he has killed all of mankind and whoever saves an innocent person it is as he has saved all of mankind”

Now, in terms of killing, the Quran makes the murder of one innocent person equivalent to all of mankind.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as the most influential person in history while quoting,

My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of world’s most influential person may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both religious and secular level.

From the biography of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and various Hadiths we come to know that he was a tolerant leader who instructed his followers to behave with gentleness and tolerance and spent his life advocating for the cause of humanity.

Abu Hurayrah (May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala be pleased with him) reported: A Bedouin man urinated in the mosque, so the people got up to scorn him. So the Prophet (SAW) said:

Let him and let himpour a bucket of water onto his urine. You were sent to make things and not to make things difficult.

Ibn Ishaq said, “Muhammad bin Jafar bin Az-Zubayr said that, The (Najran) delegation came to the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, entered his Masjid wearing robes and garments, after the Prophet had prayed the Asr prayer.

They accompanied a caravan of camels led by Bani Al-Harith bin Kab.

The Companions of the Messenger of Allah who saw them said that they never saw a delegation like them after that.

When their worship time came, they stood up to perform their worship in the Prophet’s Masjid.

The Messenger of Allah said: “Let them (worship)” and they prayed towards east which clearly contradicts that Islam is a religion of extremism.

In Quran, Chapter 3, Verse 134,

“it is said that those who spend in Allah’s cause in prosperity and in adversity,who repress anger and who pardon men; verily Allah loves the doers of good.

Muslims give more money to charity than people of other religions, according to a new British poll, Muslims were the most generous people in the United Kingdom.

Survey in the United States found the same for American Muslims who gave an estimated $4.3 billion to charity in 2020.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) spent his whole life advocating for the cause of humanity and instructed his followers to do the same.

Taqwa – Living the Main Purpose of Ramadan
